A new year is quickly approaching and, with it, will come a slew of new year’s resolutions, from financial and fitness goals to reading and travel lists. No matter where you fall, we have a few ideas for you. You know, small tweaks you can make in your everyday life that will make for a brighter, more balanced 2024. Get the new year started off on the right foot by committing to adopting these daily healthy habits.

  • Exercise daily.

It’s not news that moving your body on a daily basis is good for your mental and physical health to help reduce stress and age-related degeneration. Unfortunately, getting motivated to move can be daunting — but that doesn’t have to be so. In fact, there are plenty of healthy activities that can be enjoyable. Yoga, for instance, is one such option that we love because it exercises and tones your body while energizing and soothing your mind. A win-win!

  • Eat more lean, anti-inflammatory proteins.

Typically speaking, proteins are neutral on the scale of anti-inflammatory to pro-inflammatory. That said, some sources of protein — like sardines and wild salmon (and unlike beef and other non-grass fed meats) — are, in fact, anti-inflammatory because they are rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids.

Such proteins, even when canned, deliver overall health benefits for your skin, brain, mood and energy. These range from helping to decrease inflammation, body fat, puffiness, wrinkles, sagging, insulin levels and appetite to improving mood, brain function, energy, overall radiance, attention span, insulin levels and more.*

Start fishing for compliments (literally) with this simple and healthy salmon recipe:

Smoked Paprika-Roasted Salmon with Wilted Watercress

  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons, plus 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 pounds wild salmon fillets
  • 1 tablespoon mild smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Saigon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 bunches watercress
  1. Mix the orange juice, 2 tablespoons oil, and 1 teaspoon of thyme in a small bowl. Place the salmon in large glass baking dish, add the marinade and turn to coat well. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking dish with foil and grease the foil.
  3. Mix the paprika, cinnamon, orange zest, sea salt and remaining 1 teaspoon of thyme in a small bowl.
  4. Remove the salmon from the marinade and place it in the prepared baking dish; discard any remaining marinade. Rub the smoked paprika mixture evenly over the salmon. Roast in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  5. Wash and trim the watercress. Heat the remaining teaspoon of oil, add the watercress and cook, stirring for 2 minutes or until wilted. Serve the salmon over the watercress.
  • Get plenty of sleep.

Sleeping 7 to 9 hours each night may seem like a pipe dream but, according to experts, it’s essential. Catching enough Zzzs can not only help improve your immune system, concentration, cognitive function and energy but it can also help keep your skin clearer with less breakouts and sensitivity.

  • Wash your face every evening.

While you’re clocking in more sleep, encourage sweet dreams by prioritizing your nightly skincare regimen to wash away the day’s impurities. Afterall, nobody wants to cuddle up to a pillow covered in makeup, sweat and dirt. This build-up can lead to clogged pores and breakouts, which — let’s face it —  are nightmare-inducing.

Keep it clean and simple with our Hypoallergenic Clean Correction Gentle Cleanser, a low-foaming cleanser that’s gentle enough for all skin types. Not only does it effectively remove all residue without ever stripping the skin of its essential oils, it soothes and nourishes at the same time so your skin wakes up feeling refreshed and hydrated.

  • Incorporate retinol in your regimen.

Chances are you’ve heard a thing or two about retinol. The good news is, all that buzz is backed by decades of research to prove its many anti-aging benefits, including its ability to strengthen and plump skin, improve elasticity and diminish fine lines and wrinkles to promote a brighter, more youthful-looking complexion.

Our High Potency Retinol Recovery Overnight Moisturizer is one fan-favorite that’s hard to live without because of its unique Triple Retinol Blend of three highly stable forms of retinol: encapsulated retinol, retinol ester and phyto-retinol. Each of these works together to deliver all the powerful retinol benefits without irritation or skin sensitivity. Add this rich, ultra-nourishing overnight moisturizer to your skincare regimen in the new year to awaken a firmer, smoother, healthier-looking complexion by morning.

  • Use SPF daily.

One of the many SPF myths that gets mistaken for fact is “you don’t need to wear sunscreen in the winter.” The truth of the matter is, you should be wearing SPF every day, year-round. This is because, surprise! The sun is out in the winter, too — even if it’s overcast.

To help prevent long-term sun damage, minimize discoloration and delay visible signs of aging, an SPF like High Potency Face Finishing & Firming Moisturizer SPF 30 should be worn daily. This lightweight, fast-absorbing moisturizer delivers all-day protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays while hydrating, smoothing and firming the skin for a visibly silky, soft and velvety finish.

Now this healthy habits list isn’t so intimidating, is it? We believe in you.
