The Cold Plasma Story
One of the most exciting breakthroughs in my laboratory was the discovery a new and very effective delivery system. Many of my readers, viewers and patients know that I am a firm believer in developing topical antioxidants as they protect the skin from the harmful damage caused by inflammation. But no matter how effective or powerful the nutrient, antioxidant or other molecule is, if the delivery system fails to 'deliver,' you simply won't see results.
This understanding was instrumental in the development of a line of products I call Cold Plasma.
Cold Plasma technology is unique. At its very core is a carrier system capable of delivering the highly important nutrients that are needed by the cell. But sometimes these may be very large molecules, making it difficult or impossible to benefit the skin.
Cold Plasma technology is unique. At its very core is a carrier system capable of delivering the highly important nutrients that are needed by the cell.
And so, with a really effective delivery and carrier system, the next challenge was developing what molecules that are needed by the skin, but previously impossible to deliver, should be utilized. I believed that I now had the perfect medium to introduce glycosaminoglycans in a topical formula.
There are certain nutrients that are needed by the skin to produce the matrix of collagen and elastin absolutely necessary for youthful skin. Of particular importance are the glycosaminoglycans, which are the precursors to collagen. Higher levels of glycosaminoglycans show evidence of new collagen production in the skin.
It has long been a goal of scientists working in dermatology to find methods of increasing levels of the glycosaminoglycans in the skin, to give a more youthful appearance by building the underlying matrix. In fact, it is the impairment of glycosaminoglycans synthesis that results in much of the functional alterations (i.e. damage and destruction) of aged skin.
Scientists were delighted to discover that long-term use of alpha hydroxy acids with concentrations between 10% and 20% showed a marked increase in glycosaminoglycan levels in the skin. Even better, powerful pharmaceuticals such as growth hormones (epidermal growth factor) have resulted in an 80% increase in the production of the glycosaminoglycans.
My research has progressed significantly further. With the new carrier system, we can increase glycosaminoglycan production by 160% in a completely safe and physiologic manner -- without having to use powerful hormones such as epidermal growth factor. Thus helping to keep our skin youthful into advanced years.
The use of this new, patented proprietary delivery system also keeps the important nutrients in the solution where they belong and not sitting in the bottom of the jar.
This helps to ensure that they can be of the greatest benefit to the skin, resulting in a significantly firmer and smoother appearance to the skin.
